Version 3.11.0 of PURE offers new and improved features and a number of fixed entries from Mantis; our online feature requests and issue reporting tool for PURE. A Mantis request always mean that users have requested the feature.
This release contains the following FedEx features:
References on press clipping can now contain a URL. This makes it possible to link directly to online sources. This has been made as a general extension to the standard data model, but can be made available to anyone with other data models too.
A new module called "Self-import" releases with this version of PURE. Please request the standard PURE pricelist for info about price. The new module allows users to import selected records from external sources into PURE's publication editors. Such an import will result in data from the external source being placed in the PURE-editor's fields. It can be data like title, abstract, authors, journal information or publishing info. Batch-import of multiple publications is also possible. Imported authors are compared to existing Persons in PURE, and if there is a definite match, the imported author is automatically created as "Internal author" in PURE. If there are multiple matches, each is created as internal authors. If there is no definite match, the imported author (or authors) is created as "External author" in PURE. The user has the option to manually change such an external author to an internal one by pointing to the right person in PURE. Of course, also internal authors can be made external. Users can also remove imported information. The new module will continuously support a growing number of sources. From initial release, it will work with the following sources: PubMed (online), Reference Manager (file), ArXiv (online). During 2nd semester of 2008, the following additional sources will be added: BibTeX (file), BibCode (file), PURE (file and online), and DDF-MXD (file). Contact u for more info about this new module or for access to our demo server.
The recent addition of journals and publishers as independent content types made it necessary to convert certain customers' databases; previously in these databases, journal information was only free text parts of the publication registrations. The conversion process extracted the journal information on the publications and automatically created new journal and publisher objects, to which the publications registrations then related. Obviously, to create such new journal and publisher objects, the extracted data sets had to be merged together to new single objects. This work was automated; largely by use of algorithms. It worked well except for a number of situations in which very similar but independent journals incorrectly was merged. To facilitate manual correction of such objects, a new user feature has been added to PURE in this release, allowing objects like journals and publishers to be easily and efficiently split up into independent, individual records.
Merging of arbitrary journals and publishers has been made possible. Previously, it was only possible to merge a number of journals and publishers if they belonged to the same ISSN/ISBN roots. Now, it is also possible to merge across individual roots.
Improved search related to journals has been added: It is now possible to limit searches by workflow states and by ISSN states (without ISSN, more than one ISSN). Further, it is now possible to limit searches for journals which are "local" (only in the local PURE base), which are "central" (comes from a central often national sources like authority lists), or which actually have at least one relation to a publication (meaning a journal in which at least one publication from the institutions has been published).
Improved search related to publishers has been added: It is now possible to limit searches by "For approval" (workflow state), by "Without ISBN roots" (ISSN state), by "More than one ISBN root" (ISSN state), by "Only local" (origin), by "Only central" (origin), and finally by "At least one publication relation".
It is now possible to configure PURE so that only approved journals and publishers are available for users in the publication editor. This configuration option can be used by admins directly in their admin user interface.
In addition to the above functions, the following Mantis requests and other errors has been accommodated:
